I have just submitted a request to my local ARC to have a Group Build project in February.  The W1AW Receivers got me thinking about it because I am always trying to get them to learn some CW.  I think we're going to try and build the QRPme Rexwood 1000W Receivers.  This is a W1AW reciever for 40m W1AW broadcasts.  Looks simple enough and most of my club mates have never soldered anything, and some have only soldered the VOM's we built last February.
