The EMRFD, available from the ARRL, is a "must have" for any serious homebrewer. I really like it because I like to see 'examples' of what an article is talking about. You get that from EMRFD. They not only give you little circuits to illustrate a point, but often show you the circuit constructed. And its not usually constructed on a fancy PCB, but often in Ugly or Manhattan construction. Sometimes REAL ugly! But, they point out that it works FB.
When they give component values they might say something like "we used a 2N5454, but we tried every FET in our junk box and they all worked, so try what you have". I find this sort of direction to be empowering and its really helped my homebrewing to move to another level.
Now, they have the math in there too. Often this makes my eyes glaze over, but when they give the formula and then work out an example using some real data, it tends to make it something that I realize I can actually use.
I've only had my copy for about 6 months, and I'm sure many of you have used it much more than I have. These are my efforts to sing the book's praise, but there must be better intros and reviews out there that we can access and put links to?
