ARRL Antenna Tuner

I am sorry, but I do not see any justification for this complex circuit. W7EL has already said that it does not matter whether a balun is located at the input or the output of a tuner. After doing simulations on tuner circuits using the old ARRL Radio Designer I can confirm W7EL's position and would prefer using a balun at the output, simplifying the construction.

Hey Mikey,

How did you do your simulations? I have an Original copy of Radio Designer gathering dust and like to use it just to justify why I bought it!!!!!

ARRL Radio Designer

Dear WA1FXT,

it is the first time that I am using a forum in english, therefore my first question: Why do You address me as Mikey when my handle in this forum is Hajo?

Concerning the ARRL Radio Designer the first problem may be: It will run under Windows3.1, Windows95 and Windows98 but no more on higher Windows programmes like XP or so. Therefore my son (I am 75 and do not know how to do this) has created a VM Ware area for Windows98 in my computer operating in XP, so that I still can run the ARRL Radio Designer.

How are these conditions for the ARRL Radio Designer in your computer?

HW?

Hajo,

WA1FXT was responding to me about a comment I had posted. He was not replying to you.

The schematic for the High-Power ARRL Antenna Tuner for Balanced or Unbalanced lines was just one of many schematics, articles, and homebrew ideas we (NT7S, KA5OAI, and myself WB8ICN) loaded up on QRPedia. If you go to http://www.qrpedia.com/circuit you will see all the uploads we did.

We didn't try to judge which ones were good and which were bad...we just wanted to offer as much as possible to the homebrewing community.

I hope this explains everything. I don't agree with the idea of putting a balun on the front of a tuner either...but again, this was one of many files we had on another web site and wanted to offer here on QRPedia.

Simulation Software at WB8ICN

Using LTSpice, CircuitMaker and Tina...their free. They seem to work good for me.

I thought you really liked Radio Designer...isn't that the one you were telling me about when I was making weekend trips down there?

How are you doing on the SLIM SA? I put that aside for a bit for the holidays and other projects...but want to get back to it once I clean the bench.
